LET US HELP DONATE CONTACT

I am a 27 year old female who arrived at East Main Place in March of 2009.

I arrived after my stay at a treatment for substance abuse center and a long sorted history of drug abuse, including time I spent as a dealer.

I am a mother of one child, a daughter, 10 years old at the time I entered East Main. She resides full time with her father. I had not had any contact with her in three years.

I was not employed when I enter the East Main Place program. Due to hard work and tenacity from me and my case manager as well as consistent job search, I was offered a full time position in the food service industry.

During this time I also had some health concerns so I had an annual physical exam. The results indicated that abnormal cells were present. A routine surgical procedure was performed and the results of that procedure resulted in a referal to the OU Medical Center in OKC. Further test results concluded my worst fear: I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. My case manager stood by my side throughout my ordeal. I underwent two additional surgical procedures which will allow me to conceive a child in the future, should I so choose. I was later pronounced cancer free!

I have successfully re-established a positive and loving communication with my daughter. We speak regularly by telephone and I diligently work to meet the requirements that will allow us to ultimately re-unite.

I have achieved many of the goals I had established for myself while at East Main Place. I maintain full-time employment and remain drug free.

All of this life change is due to me successfully completing the East Main Place program.

I am a 40 yr. old man who entered the East Main Place program with a long history of alcohol and substance abuse behind me.

I did not have any teeth, a direct result of my substance abuse. Due to my last employer closing the business, I had been unemployed for seven months. I was living with my mother but my mother was placed in a nursing facility and I did not have the necessary skills to care for her. Unfortunately, these events left me homeless.

My mother was also an addict and I learned all about drugs and alcohol from the many years spent with her.

While at East Main Place I avidly pursued my search for employment and within 60 days I landed a part-time job as a dishwasher. I began attending AA meetings daily as required by my case managers.

I was also in arrears with a child support obligation which I needed to take very seriously. East Main Place referred me for legal services. My case manager accompanied me to a Family Court hearing. A payment arrangement was agreed to and I now pay child support.

I was referred to Health for Friends, where I received dental services and I recieved a full set of dentures for the total cost of only $170.00. Having teeth makes a big difference when trying to find employment.

My case manager aided me in the construction of a resume. I e-mailed my resume to various entities including the University of Oklahoma, Workforce Oklahoma and the State of Oklahoma employment websites. I was contacted for an interview and was subsequently offered a position with the State. I have been working full time and I have a full benefits package including a 401-k!

I am in the process of getting my driver’s license re-instated and I am looking into permanent housing options. Things are quickly coming together for me. I am a remarkably changed man and I maintain a clean and sober lifestyle.

I am happier now than I have ever been in my entire life!
